Sustainability

La Selva Eco-Lodge & Retreat is officially certified as a carbon-neutral property in 2025, following a journey that began on April 22nd, 2023, as part of our continued mission to protect the Amazon through sustainable luxury.

Becoming a Certified B Corporation reflects our belief that true sustainability goes beyond conservation—it transforms economies. In the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, this certification reinforces our responsibility to balance profit and purpose, benefiting people, nature, and culture alike. As a B Corp, we join a global movement reshaping business to protect fragile ecosystems and empower communities.

Through our Golden Sustainability stewardship, La Selva Eco-Lodge & Retreat has achieved verified carbon neutrality.

This was made possible by reducing emissions internally and purchasing certified carbon credits from conservation projects.

Guided by SICMA Ecuador’s “Go Neutral” program and certified by VERSA in March 2025, our operations now meet international ISO standards. Our next goal: a further 15% emissions reduction.

Community

We support the national effort to combat chronic child malnutrition in Ecuador. Between 2021 and 2023, the country recorded a 4% reduction in this critical issue—an important step toward securing healthier futures for children.

We’ve partnered with Pack for a Purpose to support the Pilche community near La Selva Eco-Lodge & Retreat. Together, we provide school supplies, games, and materials for local children—and invite guests to contribute directly.

Mandi Forest

Created to protect and offer guided visits to the Mandi Cocha Lake, the Mandi Forest project empowers local residents to act as native guides, delivering authentic experiences for guests while preserving the lake and supporting the local economy.

Mandi Wasi

The Mandi Wasi Project is a women-led initiative focused on empowering local women. It centers on crafting handmade goods using natural materials and inviting guests to engage with the community’s way of life.

Local Outsourcing

85% of our lodge’s team members are from nearby Kichwa communities. This reflects our strong commitment to supporting the local economy and creating meaningful employment opportunities in the region.

SMART DEVELOPMENT

We’ve chosen to invest in fuel-saving systems—like our four electrical batteries. These batteries recharge the generators during the day, making nighttime operation unnecessary. This reduces fuel use, avoids noise pollution, and minimizes emissions.

Sustainable Power at La Selva

With 8 electric batteries now in place, La Selva has reduced diesel use from 10,800 to 7,650 gallons per year and cut generator time from 24 to 17 hours daily. CO₂ emissions dropped from 109.16 to 77.32 tons annually—tangible progress toward protecting the Amazon rainforest.

Powered with Solar Energy

We are entering the final stage of the project: powering our electrical batteries with solar panels. This transition will further cut fuel use and drastically reduce air and noise pollution in the rainforest.

Turning the Tide: Clean Water for Everyone

Another key initiative is our water treatment plant. it ensures safe, purified water through a process certified by PurePro Water Corporation and Sav1.

PurePro Water Corporation and SAV1 are global leaders in water purification. PurePro brings over a decade of experience in reverse osmosis systems, exporting advanced filtration technologies worldwide.

Golden Green Initiatives

The Pilche Formation Program

Supports cultural revival and local empowerment through community-led workshops on design, sustainability, and heritage. Artisans craft handmade pieces using traditional materials, available for visiting guests.

Empowering Pilche Community Schools

At La Selva Ecolodge & Retreat, we support the Pilche community with practical, long-term action. After seeing children walk to school without proper footwear, we donated 75 pairs of durable rubber boots to ensure their safety in all conditions.

At La Selva,

luxury is designed with nature in mind,

and every detail of your stay contributes to a better Amazon—for the planet, the people, and for you.
